Removing the Achievement Gap for African American Boys
Boys are the most important issue facing the African American community today. With 1/3 of all black men in the USA in the penal system and more than 50% drop-out rate in high school (73% drop out rate in the San Francisco Bay Area), the situation is catastrophical. By their mid 30's, more than 64% of black men who dropped out of school have spent time in prison. M3 works with boys where they are - in school, with parents and with friends - to ensure they become strong, contributing, members of society. We let them dare to dream of their future and give them the tools to execute their dreams.
Habits of Success
Making Youth Successful in School
M3's focus is on creating Habits of Success; or the "small" habits that lead to big achievements. Time management, organization, cooperation, preparation, conflict resolution and many other small habits or competencies together form habits of success. Much of our work is centered on these "small" habits, and it is here that we often see the first signs of our success. Once the basic skills of organization and preparation are subsumed, academics and behaviors start to improve.
Life Skills
You need more than schoolwork and sports to make it in life.
More than schoolwork and sports is required to be successful in life. Beyond health, a number of skills are needed to bring all areas of life together to create a fulfilling life with enduring relationships and career success. M3 works with black boys to ensure that skills like self-discipline and networking are fostered and enhanced to enable the creation of networks and execution towards a personal vision.
