black men problems
Black men in the United States face a far more dire situation than is portrayed by employment and education statistics, according to researchers at Columbia, Princeton and Harvard: huge pools of poorly educated black men are becoming ever more disconnected from mainstream society, and to a far greater degree than comparable white or Hispanic men.
Black men have a number of unique challenges. Statistics regarding educational performance, health, unemployment, parenting, crime and incarceration show trends that are cause for significant concern.
M³ is committed to resolve these issues through working with boys, helping them to create the habits of a successful life. Education, mental & physical health, and career is not only central to giving them the tools to enjoy a happy and healthy life, but a way to invite them into participating and contributing to society as a whole. The community needs them as much as they need the community.
Parental commitment is a crucial part of creating a good development environment for boys. As a consequence, Parental Training and Counseling is a central portion of our work – giving parents the understanding and tools to create the necessary infrastructure for their children’s success.
The problems black men face – from being the highest victim category of violent crime to heart attack and AIDS statistics – are mostly environmentally created. M³ lays the basis for changing the environmental drivers that cause these problems. Education, exercise, mentoring, self-esteem and a disciplined approach to work are part of the foundation that builds our boys into men.
This is the work of a community – support our boys!
